April APPG Meeting
This meeting focused on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on children and young people who are on the fringes of and already involved with the Criminal Justice System.
Points of discussion looked at the challenges, barriers and opportunities to quickly re-engage children and young people in positive and constructive activities over the next six months, and beyond.
Guest speakers included:
- Andy Reed OBE, Chair of the Sport for Development Coalition (SfDC) gave an update on the new Sport England strategy and what this means for the SfDC members focused on engaging at risk groups of children and young people.
- Mark Lawrie, Chief Executive StreetGames gave an update on the work of StreetGames and their role in supporting a new PCC National Sport and Youth Crime Prevention Board.
- Pete Bell, Founder and Director at Step Out Stay Out explained how Step Out Stay Out is using sport and physical activity to prevent involvement with the Criminal Justice System for children and young people on the Clifton estate in Nottingham.
