Alliance of Sport hire Andrew Anastasiou as Strategic Consultant
Andrew Anastasiou has joined the Alliance of Sport team as Strategic Development Consultant and brings with him 35 years of business wisdom and hugely diverse experience.
Andrew’s career history in Sport for Development, in the charity sector, as an advisor to business owners and as a successful business leader himself means he is perfectly equipped to support the growth of AoS.
His immediate priority will be to guide the growth and sustainability of the local delivery partners on our Levelling the Playing Field project who are receiving Tackling Inequalities Funding. Andrew is also helping to develop some new projects we have in the pipeline and his experience will help support the strategic growth of AoS as a charity.
In business, Andrew’s early career took him all over the globe where he set up new divisions, drove profitability, managed teams and developed communications and marketing strategies in industries as wide-ranging as paint and silicone coating for sellotape!
In 2005, he changed direction and set up CHILD UK CIC, transforming young people’s lives in areas of poverty in Hertfordshire and across the east of England by involving them in sport and performing arts. The charity won awards and developed innovative partnership projects, successfully bidding for six- and seven-figure grants from the likes of the Football Foundation and Sport England.
His more recent experience has seen Andrew take on roles as Regional Network Lead and Strategic Consultant with StreetGames and Non-Executive Director of Board Advisors, advising CEOs and MDs on scaling up and strategising.
He has also lately been working for an alternative provision academy in south London and, during the pandemic, even put some 12-hours shifts in processing samples at a Covid testing centre “just to get out of the house and meet people!”
Andrew’s expertise is already proving invaluable with two of our new ventures, firstly a funded project to support the Local Delivery Partners receiving Tackling Inequalities Funding on our Levelling the Playing Field project with sustainability and strategy. The second is a project working with adult prison leavers, full details of which will be announced in due course.
“I’ve got such a wealth of experience that I hope I can add some value to everybody’s day at work, and that I can learn from people too,” says Andrew, who is a keen Arsenal fan.
“I am a people person and thrive on daily contact with a team, so the last year has been strange, as it has for everybody,” he says. “Knowing that the Alliance of Sport achieves its success through collaboration and partnerships excites me and I can’t wait to get started.”
