Apply for the BBC Sports Personality ‘Unsung Hero’ award!
The Alliance of Sport encourages our community of practice to put themselves forward for this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero Award.
This Unsung Hero award celebrates individuals that give up their own free time to help others take part in grassroots sports. There will be 15 winners across the UK and sports clubs across the country will also be championed and thanked on the night.
The Unsung Hero award will be supported in 2019 by Made By Sport – a four year campaign championing the power of sport to change lives and raising vital funds for organisations that are using sport to transform the lives of young people in the UK.
Made By Sport will be working in collaboration with the Sport For Development Coalition, a movement made up of over 60 charitable organisations and funders with a reach in to thousands of schools, communities, clubs and organisations, to ensure the UK’s most inspiring and deserving volunteers are nominated for this prestigious award.
We know there are many people and organisations within the Alliance of Sport’s community of practice using sport to effect positive change on people’s lives in prisons and the community – helping to prevent offending, rehabilitate offenders and making communities safer.
We encourage all those within our network to apply for the Unsung Hero Award and raise the profile of your great work. Among former award winners is Marcellus Baz, founder of SwitchUp CIC and the Nottingham School of Boxing (and a prominent member of our community of practice).
The deadline for nomination submissions is 20 October 2019. All nominations can be made through an online form and can be either written, around 800 words; or as video of no more than two minutes in length.
Once nominations close, it is over to the regional BBC teams to select the regional winners. A winner from each region will then be invited to SPOTY 2019 and an overall winner announced on the night.
