Participate in review of online knife sales on behalf of the Home Office.
With the UK government making clear its ambition to reduce knife crime by 50% over the next ten years, Stephen Clayman, the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) lead for knife crime, has been asked by the Home Office (HO) to conduct an independent rapid end-to-end review of online knife sales.
We are keen to encourage Alliance of Sport supporters and allies to take part in this review.
The review is exploring the effectiveness of current legislation, policy and practice, ultimately making a series of recommendations, which can be considered by the Minister and the Home Secretary.
A crucial part of the review is to consult with organisations in the voluntary and charitable sectors to understand how they can contribute to this work. The insights and experience from those in this area will be invaluable in helping to shape the review.
Online review
The Commander is keen to obtain these views via a short survey and is asking for responses by 1200 midday Monday 9th December. We know this is very short notice, so apologies up front for the required tight turnaround.
The survey is on a HO approved survey platform and all responses are encrypted and anonymised. The live link to the survey is: https://www.homeofficesurveys.homeoffice.gov.uk/s/PDPXI2
Consultations
In addition, the department has launched two consultations – further details below:
Knives and offensive weapons: personal liability measures on senior executives of online platforms or marketplaces.
This Home Office consultation seeks views on introducing personal liability measures for senior executives of online platforms and marketplaces who fail to take action on illegal content concerning knives and offensive weapons. The consultation closes on 11 December 2024.
Prohibiting ninja swords: legal description and defences.
This Home Office consultation seeks views on our proposed legal description of ninja swords to be in scope of the list of prohibited weapons and whether any defence or exemptions should be applied under Section 141 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (CJA). This consultation also closes on 11 December 2024.
