Beyond Sport Award Winners

The National Alliance of Sport for the Desistance of Crime are immensely proud to have been named winners of the 2017 Beyond Sport award for ‘Best Partnership or Collaboration’.

The prestigious annual awards celebrate, support, raise awareness and provide funding for organisations from across the globe that are successfully using sport to promote and achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

An entry list of over 300 was whittled down to 37, who were all invited to Wednesday night’s ceremony at One World Observatory in New York, hosted by ESPN presenter John Brenkus.

Co-founders James Mapstone and Justin Coleman attended and were ecstatic to hear the Alliance’s name read out on stage.

“We are delighted to be highlighted for best practice at an event of this magnitude,” commented James, Chair of the NASDC. “This award is dedicated to our near-250 members and our Steering Group, whose tireless work is helping to maximise sport’s impact on the desistance of crime.”

Justin, Head of the NASDC, added: “We are over the moon to have won on what was a fabulous night celebrating the great work across the world in Sport for Development. We are so proud to be playing an important part in that and humbled to have been recognised among global leaders across the sector.”

The NASDC, founded in October 2015, convenes key stakeholders to support the delivery of best practice, policy and strategy among organisations that use the power of sport to prevent offending and rehabilitate offenders. We also provide a platform to share learning, information and celebrate success. Go to our home page to find out more.
