About us
Building safer communities through sport
Sport and physical activity can help prevent crime, reduce reoffending and improve lives. But their full potential is rarely realised through isolated projects alone.
Too often, effective work remains fragmented, under-supported and difficult to scale. Evidence does not always influence policy. Community organisations may struggle to access investment. Institutions may share the same ambition but lack the structures needed to coordinate action.
The Alliance of Sport helps change that.
We are a specialist intermediary working across sport, justice, health and community safety. We collaborate with governments, international agencies, funders, researchers and community organisations to align policy, practice, evidence and investment around what works.
Operating across the UK and Southeast Asia, we develop collective impact programmes, build the evidence base and influence the systems that shape safer communities.
Our vision
A just world, free from crime
We want to see a world in which sport and physical activity are used effectively to prevent crime, support rehabilitation and build safer, healthier and fairer communities.
Our mission
Despite growing evidence of their value, sport and physical activity are not yet consistently embedded within crime prevention, rehabilitation, criminal justice policy, commissioning or investment.
As a result, promising practice often remains fragmented and under-evidenced, limiting its potential to create lasting change.
Our mission is to change that.
We embed sport and physical activity within the systems, strategies and investment decisions that reduce crime, reduce reoffending and build safer communities.
Our approach
- Unite: We align people, partners and purpose.
- Evidence: We turn insight and experience into measurable impact.
- Advocate: We use evidence and collective influence to shape policy, practice and investment.
Our work
Our work focuses on two connected areas.
- Collective impact programmes
We design and coordinate programmes that bring partners together, strengthen community action and create the conditions for lasting change.
- Research and policy influence
We build the evidence base, translate learning into practical recommendations and help influence the decisions that shape safer communities.
